Thoughts on Digital Marketing from the LSA’s “Bootcamp” in Atlanta
I recently participated in the Local Search Association’s (LSA) Bootcamp in Atlanta, a one-day digital marketing workshop (and roadshow) designed to help business owners master the fundamentals of digital marketing. Delivering on our mission of helping local businesses grow, this was an incredible opportunity for YP℠, as one of the event’s main sponsors, to provide entrepreneurs with essential tips, tools, and resources to make their businesses even stronger and more competitive in today’s rapidly evolving digital environment.
Of the nearly 100 business owners in the room, many were surprised to learn that even though Atlanta is one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. – fueled by a booming tech industry – small businesses in the area are falling far behind when it comes to adopting the latest digital technologies and the most effective digital marketing tactics to build their businesses. In fact, among the city’s 75,000+ registered small businesses, we learned that a vast majority of them still operate websites that are not yet mobile friendly (a must in today’s constantly connected culture).
So what does this all mean for small businesses and what must they do in order to stay competitive in today’s digitally-saturated environment? Here’s my checklist for success:
- Make your website mobile-friendly so consumers can find your business wherever they are and easily view your business information on their mobile devices.
- Keep your digital presence current and consistent across all media, with up-to-date address, phone numbers, and web links.
- Engage your consumers through social channels to drive awareness around your business and build loyalty to your brand.
- Promote your business via search engine marketing and display advertising so your target consumers find you when they are searching for products and services like the ones your business offers.
